SOCIAL PROGRAM
General Information for all social events currently being planned for the Lithography Workshop in Puerto Rico is provided below. Further details of all social activities will continue to be made available prior to the Workshop meeting in December and updated on this web site (see Web Site Postings and Updates).
All those attending the Workshop can sign-up for all social activities on Sunday evening (December 9) in the Workshop registration area.
There is no charge for the Workshop’s Old San Juan tour on Monday afternoon but there will be a charge for each of the additional activities offered on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. A nominal fee may also be charged for some of the Spouse/Guest morning and evening activities.
Workshop Activities
Old San Juan Tour (December 10)
The Workshop will host a visit to historic Old San Juan on Monday afternoon for everyone attending the Workshop, including spouse, guests, and children. Buses will depart the Wyndham Rio Mar Resort shortly after the morning technical session ends. Upon arrival in Old San Juan, a guided walking tour will be arranged using professional guides and small groups. Highlights of the walking tour will include a leisurely stroll down cobblestone streets home to 16th century churches, mansions, plazas, shops and galleries and a visit to a an historic fort.
Additional Available Tours (December 11 and 12)
There will be a number of activities available for the group on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons such as:
- The El Yunque Rain Forest, part of the Caribbean National Forest system, is a tropical jungle of exotic trees and plants, waterfalls, and well marked hiking trails.
- Catamaran “Snorkel Sail” to a nearby island off the coast of Fajardo with white sandy beaches and a world of tropical fish in crystal clear Caribbean waters.
- The Barcardi Rum Factory and Museum in San Juan. Barcardi is the world’s largest rum distillery. Complimentary rum drinks.
- Luquillio Beach, which is located very near the Wyndham resort claims, “Blue Flag” certification as one of the best beaches in the world.
- Kayaking – Bioluminescent Lagoon at Las Cabezas Preserve is a unique experience. This tour is recommended as an evening activity in order to fully enjoy the bioluminescent phenomena.
Longer tours to unique and interesting areas in Puerto Rico, such as the city of Ponce, the Arecibo Observatory, or the Camuy Cave Park, can be arranged but will require a full day and are suggested pre-or post-Workshop activities.
Spouse/Guest Activities
Spouse/guest activities are currently being planned for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and Monday and Tuesday evenings while the technical sessions are in progress.
The spouse/guest activities are focusing on themes that are unique to the island of Puerto Rico.
On Monday morning, following breakfast, a speaker native to Puerto Rico will explain the islands history, culture and its many attractions. Other activities that are under consideration for the remainder of the week include local artisans who will demonstrate their unique island crafts, a trip to one of the finest art museums in Puerto Rico, the fine art of salsa dancing, and a cooking lesson or class by Pablo, the resorts executive chef who is renown in his field, featuring a taste-of-Puerto Rico.
